Quantitative Research

Quantitative Data Collection

Large-scale telephone surveys is one of our specialties. We operate call centres in our Ottawa, Edmonton and Victoria offices which collectively house more than 100 Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI) stations. Our advanced data collection system allows for batch dialing, voice recording of calls (mp3 format) and dynamic call display. Our CATI system simultaneously manages telephone and online (CAWI) survey completions, allowing us to deploy any survey as a mixed mode telephone and online survey. Each call centre has onsite supervisors who monitor and provide support to ensure surveys are completed to the highest standards.

We also have the ability to administer mail-out/mail-back (MOMB) surveys through the use of scanning software to automate data entry. Furthermore, if intercept surveys are required, trained staff from any one of our four offices can complete surveys using Computer Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI); and Malatest has proven success in hiring and training temporary data collection staff for projects requiring high quality on-site data collection. For example, Malatest has hired, trained and supervised up to 900 data collection staff for large-scale national research projects.

Web-based Engagement Tools

Our survey system affords considerable flexibility in completing online research. Not only does our system manage complex online surveys, it also acts as a scheduling system that allows clients and staff to undertake research studies where participants must schedule a visit to particular locations. For example, for studies in health care, surveys can be completed with participants and individuals booked to visit clinics or other medical facilities. As younger participants are typically a difficult demographic, we have also developed protocols and strategies to engage youth through the use of social media sites and through the use of smart phone applications to complete surveys.

Qualitative Data Collection

We provide the qualitative research services required to gain in-depth information about programs, products and services. We operate two professional focus group facilities (Victoria, Edmonton) that we use for qualitative research services. We have qualitative research experts who have facilitated hundreds of focus groups. In addition to the facilitation of traditional focus groups, we are well positioned to moderate focus group using alternative venues, such as telephone or online focus groups.

Research Standards

Malatest is an accredited member of the Canadian Research Insights Council (CRIC). As members we pledged ourselves to maintain the highest standards of scientific competence, integrity, and transparency in conducting, analyzing, and reporting our work; establishing and maintaining relations with survey respondents and our clients; and communicating with those who eventually use the research for decision making purposes and the general public. Furthermore, we were bound to adhere to the CRIC’s Code of Conduct for Members, including the CRIC Public Opinion Research Standards and Disclosure Requirements. Although the agency has closed, we voluntarily continue to adhere to these principles while a new agency is put in place to regulate the industry.
