Understanding Burnaby’s Travel Patterns
The 2024 Burnaby Household Travel Survey is a significant data collection effort aimed at understanding the daily travel choices of Burnaby residents. This survey, conducted by Malatest on behalf of the City of Burnaby, plays a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation in the City. The survey results will help the City of Burnaby understand residents’ travel patterns and contribute towards policy and decision-making in alignment with Connecting Burnaby: Burnaby’s Transportation Plan.
Survey Questions and Outreach
The 2024 Burnaby Household Travel Survey will collect revealed preference travel data, which means we will gather information about the trips residents made on the previous weekday. We do this by surveying a random sample of 2% of households in the City of Burnaby. Invitations will be mailed to randomly selected households from September to November 2024. The City has updated its website to inform residents about the survey and encourage their participation in this important survey.
Survey participants are eligible to win some great prizes (one of two $200 cash prizes or one of 45 e-gift cards for $25). More information about the project can be found on www.burnabytravelsurvey.ca.
Malatest’s Role in the Project
Malatest has extensive experience conducting travel surveys. We implement an online survey option utilizing our Triptelligence™ survey platform. This allows participants the flexibility to complete the survey online or by phone, making it more accessible to a broader audience. Our methodology includes sampling from the universe of the City’s households for which a listed telephone number exists, as well as those households that do not have landlines. This process ensures that collected data is representative of Burnaby’s diverse population, including young households, newcomers to Canada and households without a landline phone.
