We worked collaboratively with Dr. Robert Schalock and CLBC to revise the My Life: Personal Outcomes Index to the BC community context. This included developing a new peer-based approach in which we hired and trained individuals with developmental disabilities to administer the survey using an in-person, peer-to-peer approach. To facilitate the smooth implementation of the survey administration activities we also developed an online tool for interview scheduling. Over the course of this project, we have obtained thousands of survey completions with individuals with developmental disabilities, and have provided career development support to hundreds of peer interviewers.

The information gathered through the My Life survey generates insights for CLBC and service providers on how the supports and services that are currently offered may be enhanced or modified further to improve the quality of life of supported individuals. Furthermore, this project functions as a valuable career development activity for individuals with developmental disabilities, as many participate as interviewers in the project for multiple years and/or leverage the experience to gain further employment.
